August 29, several reliable sources have confirmed information about the fact that the current President of Uzbekistan died from a brain haemorrhage.
In the evening, on September 2, when no one could hide information about the president’s death, local television announced on the air that Islam Karimov died.
Also across the country was announced three days of mourning and began preparing for the funeral.
The funeral of the President took place on September 3 in Samarkande.The chief of commission for the funeral of President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov has been appointed Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This appointment was made by Parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan and read out on the air after the announcement of the death of Karimov.
Information about the death of the President of Uzbekistan was hiding for a long time. Firstly, the Interfax news agency spread information that the leader of Uzbekistan died. The Government of Uzbekistan, in turn, denied the information. Then Reuters told about the death of Islam Karimov. Journalists received information from three reliable sources.

The Uzbek government could no longer conceal the president’s death and on the 2 September official information about the death of Islam Karimov appeared on the air.
According to official information, Islam Karimov died on September 2 after 79 year of life.
The cause of death was called “acute cerebrovascular accident (stroke), which led to irreversible changes in the brain and multiple organ failure,” it said in a statement the Government and Parliament of Uzbekistan.
On the eve of the death of the president of Uzbekistan, the country celebrated 25 years of independence. That is why the death of Karimov’s was hidden so long period. After the broadcast on television, which is already officially we have stated the information in the country removed all the flags that signified mourning for the departed leader.
Last Saturday, 3 September, the day after the announcement of the president’s death, his funeral was held. Islam Karimov was buried in Samarkand at the historic cemetery of Shah-i-Zinda, near the grave of his parents. The funeral procession was attended by thousands of people.
Also we want to note that funeral was attended only by the youngest daughter of Karimov – Lola, two daughters could not come to the funeral of father.
At the Registan Square in Samarkand appeared huge poster of the president of Uzbekistan during the funeral. According to Muslim tradition, only men could attend the funeral. The body was wrapped in a shroud (kind of fabric) and send to the historical cemetery Shahi Zinda. It is about two kilometers from the Registan Square.
The funeral was attended by representatives of many countries. Among them were the Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, the leader of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Kyrgyz Prime Minister Sooronbai Jeenbekov.The delegation from Russia was headed by Dmitry Medvedev.
Dmitry Medvedev also met with Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyayev. Political analysts and the media tells that he is one of the possible successors of the late President.
Vladimir Putin could not attend the funeral because of the tight schedule. But three days after the funeral, the president of Russia came to Uzbekistan.
Vladimir Putin met with Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as well as with the widow of Islam Karimov and his youngest daughter. He said that Uzbekistan can always rely on Russia “as the most reliable friends.”
Samarkand residents greeted the motorcade with the body of Islam Karimov, holding a traditional funeral bukety.People threw flowers to the car with the body of prezident.The city-center of Samarkand was blocked; car traffic was banned during the day.
The people of Uzbekistan did not know another leader for 27 years – in 1989, Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan headed by the Communist Party, and in 1990 was elected as a president of another Soviet republic.
During last voting process, alternative system of voting was held. It was provided with internet resources. According to results of online-elections, Bokhodir Choriyev won the last alternative elections of the president in Uzbekistan.
