Freedom, democracy and human rights of citizens of Uzbekistan!

Press Release

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov has recently expressed his abhorrence towards citizens who are forced to work in Russian Federation and called them slackers. He stressed that he feels ashamed of them. However, he forgot that these people became idlers, lost elementary social guarantees due to Karimov’s repressive-corrupt policy.

There are over 30 million people live in Uzbekistan however this is just a statistics. Inasmuch as over 5 million are forced to reside as migrants and work in Russia, 1 million of them are in Kazakhstan and another 1 million in other countries of the world. They work under extreme conditions of injustice in order to support own families and their close ones. This is forced by a massive unemployment that prevails in Uzbekistan. According to the Central Bank of Russian Federation migrant workers in 2012 had transferred over 6 billion USD to Uzbekistan.

In Uzbekistan, the totalitarian-authoritative method of government management still holds strong position in political, economic and social spheres. The results of almost 25 years of politics enforced by the president Karimov are in legal nihilism, ignorance of base requirements of market economy and civilized life-style of citizens.

There is no ownership of a property in the country. Farmers work and produce commodity and yet are forced to pass on these products to government for a scanty of payment. Cotton slavery grows stronger, everybody between the ages of 7 to 70 years are forced to collect cotton annually from September to November. All educational and other agencies remain closed during this time period.

Free thinking people in Uzbekistan are under the persecution by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, National Security Services, Prosecutor’s Office and Court agencies. Such a dictatorial approach by the government authorizes, prosecutors, police and special forces work for retention of Karimov’s power and his clique. Overwhelming corruption along with systematic repression keeps people in silence. Those who dare to criticize the regime or happen to relate to an oppositionist cannot be envied.

People in Uzbekistan are deprived of the freedom of speech and of the press. Independent journalists, secular and religious dissidents are in prison or in exile on trumped-up criminal cases. The television and the press are subjected to the Karimov regime. There are over 7 thousand political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in the country.

Women are sterilized without their consent right after first birth. Women are deprived of basic social protection.

There is no free currency convertibility in the country. Therefore, people are forced to seek alternative in the black market of currencies.

The President and his daughter are taking away properties from the rich and powerful people and companies.

People’s patience is running out. Uzbekistan has to be a secular democratic state, where human rights and freedom, free speech, rule of law, market economy and other fundamental priorities of a civilized society must prevail.

Dear US President Barack Obama! We recognize your busy schedule, but we ask you please find time to pay attention to our long-suffering country.

We demand that the authorities of Uzbekistan immediately release Hasan Choriev, Murad Juraev, Solijon Abdurakhmonov, Dilmurad Sayyid, Samandar Kukanov and other political prisoners.

We demand the resignation of President Islam Karimov!
